We would like to share an exciting internship opportunity available at Delta Life Science, a spin-off from TNO, located in the Rotterdam Science Tower. We are currently seeking talented and motivated students for at least six-month internship that will also serve as a graduation assignment.

About our company:

Delta Life Science is at the forefront of developing innovative biosensors based on cutting-edge optical chip technology, poised to revolutionize life-science research and medical diagnostics. Our vision is to enable point-of-care diagnostic tests capable of identifying various diseases with just a single drop of blood. To this end, we are validating our instruments by developing relevant assays for diagnostic applications and kinetic measurements.

The Team

We have a very diverse team with 15 different nationalities. Company language is English and there is a very open atmosphere. We have regular team events, celebrate the special days of the different cultures and we like to think “out of the box”.

Internship Overview:

The internship assignment will focus on the design and execution of experiments using our advanced instruments. The selected intern will develop and optimize assay protocols to demonstrate the feasibility of detecting specific biomarkers or establishing the kinetics of binding interactions. This involves immobilizing binding molecules on our sensor chips and detecting their interactions with target analytes.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Developing assays: Determining optimal assay parameters, including concentrations, flow speed, buffer selection, and immobilization surfaces.

Interpreting data: Analysing data to quantify or assess affinity for certain analytes/biomarkers related to specific diseases and evaluating potential matrix effects.

Objectives and Deliverables:

The intern will gain a deep understanding of assay development and will work towards determining the optimal assay parameters. They will also be responsible for producing:

A Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for performing the assay.

A detailed report on the experiments conducted and the resulting conclusions.

A presentation of their findings, suitable for graduation defence and potentially for attracting customers and investors. There is also the possibility of co-authoring a publication in a peer-reviewed journal, depending on the results.

Supervision:

The intern will be supervised by the Head of Analytics, who will provide guidance and support throughout the internship.

We believe this opportunity will provide students with invaluable hands-on experience in a cutting-edge field, contributing significantly to their academic and professional development and are looking forward to welcoming new students to our company.
