Innovating with Integrity: Through the Lens of an Optical Engineer at Delta Life Science

Innovating with Integrity: Through the Lens of an Optical Engineer at Delta Life Science

Introduction

At Delta Diagnostics, the work floor is bustling. Currently, we are getting our prototype ready for production, a challenging job that requires a lot of concentration, communication, and control over the processes. The workload is manageable thanks to our open culture and guiding principles. The team works jointly to succeed, and the way of working is more important than ever to ensure success.

Alexander Heemels is an optical engineer at Delta Diagnostics. As he has recently transitioned from academia to the fast-paced world of biotech, he faces new challenges and opportunities to contribute daily.

Early Days and Adaptation

Alexander’s job is to ensure that proteins bind correctly on the chip to produce an optimal signal through optical elements. This process requires extreme attention to detail to ensure optimal signal quality. Due to the shift towards production, Alexander is currently drafting protocols and manuals so that the manufacturer can reproduce and align the optical elements of the machine as required.

A Day in the Life

“Each day when I come into work, I start with a cup of coffee with some colleagues,” Alexander says. After the check-in, he proceeds to the lab, where he documents and refines the alignment process for the completed design. “The main objective is to make the documentation so clear and simple that even someone without a background in optics can align it using basic instructions,” he adds. Future engineers and factory workers will benefit tremendously from that. The following steps involve testing and assembling the final prototypes, a critical stage where the team will see if their enhancements meet the rigorous demands of real-world application.

Team Dynamics and Collaboration

Alexander is not the only engineer working hard to get the prototype ready for production. He is working with a team of specialists, each with their area of expertise. For example, some microfluidics experts handle the chip’s liquid aspects. Software engineers translate the physical changes into digital outputs, and mechanical engineers ensure that every component fits perfectly. It is essential not only for the optics and mechanics to work seamlessly together but for the whole company.

Culture and Principles at Play

Delta Diagnostics upholds core values of trust, honesty, open-mindedness, and respect. Alexander identifies with these values and appreciates the team’s transparent communication and shared enthusiasm. He remarks that the entire team experiences collective joy when something works, and everyone is willing to help in case of setbacks. Alexander trusts his colleagues will fulfill their commitments, making Delta Diagnostics a motivating and pleasant workplace.

Conclusion

Alexander is enthusiastic about his journey at Delta Diagnostics so far. The company’s guiding principles are more than just slogans—every employee truly embodies them, and the work environment fosters success. Alexander and his team are passionately devoted to significantly impacting global health diagnostics.
